Location is how WhereIParked knows where you parked and where you are now, so it can guide you back. It's used only for this — never sold or shared.
Check that background location access is set to "Always" (iOS) or "Allow all the time" (Android) in your phone's Settings — automatic detection needs it to work while the app isn't open.
iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → WhereIParked → Always. Android: Settings → Apps → WhereIParked → Permissions → Location → Allow all the time.
Your saved spot, photo, and notes live only on your device. Clear them anytime from within the app, or uninstalling the app removes everything.
